Embracing a Sustainable Future: EU Commits €6.2B for Sustainable Mobility on TEN-T Network

Revolutionizing the Trans-European Transport Network, the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) powers ahead, investing a remarkable EUR 6.2 billion in financial support for 107 cutting-edge projects.

With an unwavering commitment to the European Green Deal, a whopping 82% of the CEF funding targets transport infrastructure aligned with climate objectives and the EU’s climate change combat mission.

The ultimate vision of CEF is a more efficient, greener, and smarter transport network that slashes the environmental impact of transportation while igniting regional economic growth and bolstering connectivity.

The clock is ticking, and the European Commission is on a mission to complete the TEN-T core network by 2030 and the comprehensive network by 2050. These trailblazing projects seek to create an extensive web of roads, safe and secure parking, railways, inland waterways, ports, and airports that unite EU Member States and reach beyond borders.

These transformative initiatives stretch beyond EU boundaries, forging robust cross-border connections with neighbouring countries like Ukraine and Moldova via the Solidarity Lanes. The result is an enhanced regional cooperation, flourishing trade, and seamless social integration.

Transport Commissioner Adina-Ioana Vălean said:

“Today, we’re earmarking €6.2 billion for projects across Europe, bringing us closer to completing the backbone of the EU’s economy – the Trans-European Network for Transport, TEN-T. I’m thrilled that €250 million will strengthen cross-border links between Ukraine, Moldova, and their EU neighbours, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland. These projects will streamline goods transportation between the EU and Ukraine, reinforcing the Solidarity Lanes!”

This commitment to sustainable mobility not only reiterates commitment to environmental goals but also cements the EU’s status as a global sustainability and responsible infrastructure leader.

But wait, there’s more: The European Commission opens the door to further financing opportunities under CEF Transport programs like the 2023 call for Military Mobility, accepting applications until September 21, 2023. It also offers financing though the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility, open until November 7, 2023. Keep your eyes peeled for the 2023 CEF Transport calls for proposals launching in late September 2023, promising more thrilling advancements on the horizon!
