Global Gateway – The EU’s global support initiative

Digital

Climate and energy

Transport

Health

Education and research

As an additional measure, creation of a European Export Credit Facility is currently being considered to support the Global Gateway objectives. This would help European businesses willing to invest in the targeted Third Countries – especially given the competition by state-backed companies from other developed economies that invest in Third countries.

Thus, the aim is to offer solid financial conditions for partners, including grants, favourable loans, and budgetary guarantees to minimise investment risk and improve debt sustainability as well as technical assistance to design viable projects.

For instance, Africa shall be heavily supported regarding, among other things:

Clean hydrogen production
Agri-food Systems
Access to reliable internet networks
Sustainable mineral raw materials value chains
Biodiversity
Women entrepreneurship
Climate resilience and disaster risk reduction
Manufacturing and access to vaccines, medicines and health technologies
